Growing families today are often faced with homes that are ‘bursting at the seams’ with the need for additional living space. And with today’s uncertain real estate market and often a homeowners’ familiarity for their current neighborhoods, many families are electing to ‘stay put’ by increasing their living area with additions and alterations to their existing homes. This young family in Westwood, Massachussets is presently occupying a two bedroom ranch house with their three young daughters all sharing one, tiny bedroom. The need to provide bedrooms for each of their daughters is paramount and, with outward expansion of the existing house limited by nearby property lines, the only logical expansion potential is to add on another story.

 

Design Associates has designed a 2nd story addition to create a new home that is reminiscent of garden country homes of the 1930’s, complete with an expanded kitchen, mudroom, 3-car garage, a quiet master suite, and those ‘must have’ three bedrooms on the 2nd floor for their daughters.
