Prior to his promotion to Principal in 2000, Darin Mardock worked for three years as a Project Architect at Design Associates’ Cambridge office. As Project Architect, Mr. Mardock managed several residential projects, including the renovation of the Victorian Bentley Residence on Nantucket island that was featured on PBS-TV’s This Old House, the exterior restoration of the Grindall Reynolds House in the historic town of Concord, and an extensive interior renovation of a 3,200 square foot residence in the historic Agassi Building in the Back Bay neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts.

To such projects, Mr. Mardock brings his considerable Historic District expertise, honed by over nine years of work, particularly in the Back Bay and South End Historic Districts of Boston. He has gained much experience in working within the parameters of such historic districts, through application to the Back Bay Historic District Commission and the South End Landmarks Commission. One such project centered around a prototypical brownstone building, built on the Washington Neck prior to the infill and development of the Back Bay region in Boston. Originally a large rooming house, Mr. Mardock converted the five-story, 7,400 square foot structure into three luxury condominiums, one of them being his own private residence.

Before joining Design Associates in 1997, Darin Mardock worked for ten years as Project Architect at Wallace Floyd Associates in Boston. There, he had the opportunity to work with a team of urban designers for the Central Artery/Third Harbor Tunnel Project, where he studied the city of Boston and its relationship of buildings to public open spaces (i.e. parks, squares, gardens, planted and paved city roads, and other spaces). In addition, he wrote environmental statement reports to study the impact created on the city by the massive "Big Dig" project. He also worked on large architectural components related to the Central Artery Project, such as a multi-use building combining an underground Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) station, ground floor open air market (the Hay Market Vendors), above ground parking, office tower, and ventilation facility for the underground highway. Mr. Mardock was also Project Architect for three buildings commissioned by the Massport Air Rescue & Firefighting Facilities at Logan Airport. Other public facility projects included MBTA facilities, such as the North Station Transportation Improvement Project, Lechmere Rapid Transit Station, and the Light Rail Accessibility Project. He also was the Project Architect for the four-story limestone addition and renovation to the Robbins Library in Arlington, Massachusetts.

When Mr. Mardock left Wallace Floyd, he had decided to pursue his interest and talent in designing high-end residential homes that maintain their sensitivity to historical context. He enjoys working with each client individually to personalize their project from schematic design through the end of construction. His work at Design Associates has allowed him to gain a much broader knowledge of different styles of architecture and to fulfill his interest in the preservation and regeneration of historic architecture. Mr. Mardock received a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Oregon in 1986.
